The beach bars of Barceloneta demolished by the Coastal Law

The beach bars of Barceloneta had become a typical and endearing Barcelona icon. Barcelona families waited for the weekend or the celebration of some important event to go to a beach bar in Barceloneta to eat a paella or a seafood platter.

The 1992 Olympic Games changed the face of Barcelona.

In April 1991, eighteen beach bars were demolished in strict application of the Coastal Law, approved by the Cortes three years earlier.

The construction of the projected promenade begins. The Olympic dream begins to come true and the city opens up to the sea.
